Setting the benchmark
Located in the heart of Jakarta, Sequis Tower set a new standard for the Indonesian commercial identity spread over 40 levels of commercial office space, sky gardens and spaces for retail, education and flexible use. Our job was to design and document the complete signage and wayfinding solution for Sequis Tower, its surrounding precinct areas and the multi-level underground car park. The tower has an innovative façade structure which is inspired by the root form of the local banyan tree. Our signage family responds directly to the unique architecture of the building using illumination, integrated materiality, and patterning to tie all areas together.
One size can't fit all
The project has many spaces with various interchangeable functions and a diverse set of user groups within a fairly confined space, each needing differing messaging. The architecture features angled and sloped walls unfit for mounted signage, and includes many internal, external and underground spaces. We drew on the unique façade detail and the reference to the banyan tree roots and used the façade panelling as a return detail to all sides of the large freestanding sign forms through laser cutting stainless steel and illuminating within. These reflects the exact characteristics of the building. Sign-forms were directly embedded within the building fabric, folding and cutting into wall materials. This pattern then carried across to all areas of the signage scheme. The consistency of concept ties all elements together with signage that is truly incorporated with the building’s architectural design intent and the physical building fabric.
