Authenticity, connectivity, diversity
We’ve created a communication system for the 2,000sqm Karrinyup shopping centre redevelopment in Western Australia — a mall that breaks the mould and sets a new benchmark for shopping precincts of its kind. Genius loci
Our system is integrated into the architecture and complimentary to the unique genius loci — a casually sophisticated costal cool vibe set out by the architects. It acknowledges the local community. It’s authentically Perth, deepening the connection to place. It’s intuitive, simple and agile. Inside, we recommended a districts wayfinding model. The system divides the building into distinct districts with varying character which our sign forms clearly reference to help staff and visitors find their way.
Complex external wayfinding
Designing the external wayfinding system was complex. The scale of the shopping centre was one consideration, but the 10 separate entry points spread along the 1.6km perimeter, all leading to different destinations, created a different challenge. These needed signs to clearly identify the destination where each entry leads. In the car park, visitors are directed using bold colours and distinct super graphics.
